A while back, I was chatting with a new freelancer who had just quoted $1,800 for a full website rebuild.
I asked, âWould you pay that for what youâre offering?â
She blinked. Thought for a moment.
âHonestly⊠probably not.â
And there it was – the litmus test.

Because if you wouldnât confidently invest in your own service, why would anyone else?
Itâs a question I return to again and again, and one I encourage all freelancers to ask, especially if you’re trying to move upmarket:
đ Would you pay you?
Flip the Script
Letâs say you are your dream client.
You click through to your own website. You read your sales page. You sit through your own triage call.
Would you:
- Feel excited to sign up for a digital strategy session?
- Understand the business value of whatâs being offered?
- Trust yourself to deliver?
If the answer is anything less than a full-bodied âHell yes!â, thatâs a signal to revisit your offer.
High-ticket clients arenât looking for âcheap.â
Theyâre looking for confidence.
They want to feel like theyâre making a wise, strategic decision, and that energy starts with you.
Why Freelancers Undersell Themselves
Hereâs what I see all the time with WordPress freelancers trying to level up their pricing:
- Imposter syndrome pricing: Charging for time, not transformation
- Vague deliverables: Leaving the client unsure of what theyâre buying
- âMe, Me, Meâ language: Describing your process instead of their result
- No proof: No testimonials, no portfolio, no trust signals
Clients donât pay for websites.
They pay for leads. Confidence. Clarity. They want to feel good about saying yes.
If your offer feels vague, cheap, or uncertain⊠theyâll keep scrolling.
A Quick Self-Audit: Would You Buy This?
Hereâs a simple gut-check I often use:
â
Is this package built around a transformation, not just tasks?
â
Can I back it up with results, examples, or testimonials?
â
Would I feel confident charging double and still delivering value?
â
Am I solving a clear business problem or just building another pretty homepage?
If you canât check most of those, itâs not about lowering your price.
Itâs about raising your clarity.
A Mindset Shift That Changes Everything
Once you believe in the value of what youâre selling, everything changes.
You speak differently. You write differently. You show up with calm authority, not desperation.
You stop justifying your price⊠and start owning your value.
And yes, clients feel that difference. They pick up on your certainty.
Thatâs what gets you a âYes.â
đŹ So⊠Would You Pay You?
Iâd love to hear your honest answer.
Have you ever looked at your own offer and thought, âIâm not sure Iâd pay for thisâ?
đ Hit reply and tell me: Would you pay you?
No judgment, just real talk between freelancers.

PS: Sticky Note This One
âIf you wouldnât pay for it, tweak it until you would.
Then charge accordingly because confidence converts.â
Until next time, keep thriving!
Wil.
